Description
The two-round bout will explore the controversial world of red cell aging and its practical effects on choice of blood for transfusion.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:

Assess evidence of decreased oxygen-carrying capacity of older red cells and patient outcomes.

Identify and explain pitfalls in age of RBC research to date.

Review biological plausibility that older blood may be harmful.

Show how most of the "evidence" suggesting detrimental effects is biased and overestimated.
