Information technology holds great promise for enabling improved quality and process improvement in health care for the patient and institution. Successful implementation of technology in the tumultuous "real world" of health care is not without its challenges. This session describes real world efforts to improve clinical care and administrative efficiencies through the effective use of an electronic health record including computer physician order entry.
