Description
Recovery of shed blood is a medical intervention that can significantly reduce allogeneic blood requirements. This intervention is recommended by several professional societies, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Society for Cardiovascular Anesthesia. This session will review current practice and operational structure designed to make cell salvage highly effective in both intra-operative and post-operative settings.

  • Describe techniques used to optimize intra-operative cell salvage.
  • Discuss the operation and impact of post-operative blood recovery systems.
  • List key elements of operating a high quality cell salvage program.
