Description
This workshop will address ISBT 128 labeling issues typically found in small transfusion services. Topics will include the selection of reimbursement codes, finding the right ISBT 128 product code, and labeling of pediatric aliquots, reconstituted red cells, thawed plasma, and pooled products. Changes to the US Consensus Standard for the Uniform Labeling of Blood and Blood Components will be discussed. The session will describe training tools for laboratory and nursing staff. Significant time will be provided for questions and answers.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
- Describe how to label products typically used in a small transfusion service.
- Discuss training tools for nursing and laboratory staff.
- Select a process for creating labels for small bags and syringes of blood components.
- Select the appropriate ISBT 128 product code for products.
