Antibody Identification: Mind Boggling Magic to Masterful Methodology
Description
Magic looks like magic until you understand what is happening...
To the uninitiated, how a medical laboratory scientist is able to identify an antibody (or better yet, multiple antibodies or an antibody to a high prevalence antigen) may seem like magic. But the secret to seeing beyond the magic is having an understanding of how test methods and available techniques work. In addition, the influence of the chemical composition of the antigen on the type of antibody you're trying to detect aids in problem solving.
Speakers will illustrate how understanding why tests work and how to use them can allow a serologist to combine them into a process for resolving most antibody problems. Incorporating concepts from quality management and process design has helped move from the magic and mystique of antibody identification to process-driven approaches.
This program will provide a comprehensive look at the process of antibody identification that is sure to amaze you! Don't worry; there is always some magic when it comes to antibodies.
This program will incorporate the Sally Frank Award lecture.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
-
Compare and contrast currently available antibody detection methods.
-
Describe differences in antibodies formed to protein vs. carbohydrate antigens.
-
Develop processes for resolving various antibody problems.
-
Discuss the value of establishing processes for antibody identification.
