Description
In this session, two eminent clinical investigators will be presenting the results of two recent and important randomized clinical trials in transfusion medicine. The Transfusion Trigger Trial for Functional Outcomes in Cardiovascular Patients Undergoing Surgical Hip Fracture Repair (FOCUS) trial investigated outcomes of patients with cardiovascular disease undergoing orthopedic surgery who received red cell transfusions at two different triggers. One speaker will present the first results from this trial. The Effects of Prophylactic Platelet Dose on Transfusion Outcomes (PLADO) trial investigated the effect of three different platelet doses on bleeding in patients undergoing chemotherapy or HPC transplantation. Another speaker will present new data from the PLADO trial.
