Selective testing strategies
Description
The speakers in this session will discuss the proposed use of selected testing strategies for selected emerging infections, a new TRANSFUSION supplement on emerging infection agents offering risk to the blood supply, and the mechanisms underlying the risk of emergence of arthropod-borne viruses in the US.
LEARNER OUTCOMES:
-
Compare the evidence that supports proposed approaches to selective donor testing for antibody to T. cruzi.
-
Discuss the process by which the TTD committee produced the Emerging Infectious Diseases supplement to TRANSFUSION and be aware of its intended use and life cycle.
-
Illustrate how the epidemiology of Babesia sp. will inform proposals to screen blood donors for evidence of infection with organisms of this genus.
-
Review the possible vector-parasite interactions that may affect the ability of arthropod-borne infections to emerge as threats to the blood supply.
