Description
This teleconference will review the status of ISBT 128 implementation in the fields of cellular therapy, tissue transplantation and derivatives worldwide. Discussion will include current and potential experience with using ISBT in these specialties. The presentation will be based on information available at the time of the audio conference. Speakers will discuss the advantages and obstacles involved with the implementation of ISBT 128 as well as how to select appropriate product codes. Tools that are available to simplify the selection of product codes will be demonstrated. Application of ISBT 128 to products drawn for the National Marrow Donor Registry will be presented. Efforts to integrate ISBT 128 from various patient service providers will be discussed. The use of ISBT 128 in electronic messaging between disparate computer systems and newer delivery mechanisms such as RFID will be also discussed.

  • Describe how standardization in tissues and the use of ISBT 128 supports the goal of traceability.
  • Describe the progress being made to extend ISBT 128 to applications beyond the labeling of blood.
  • Outline the work being done to harmonize the ISBT 128 Standard with that of GS1, a supply chain standard used in labeling pharmaceuticals and other items.
  • Review the status of ISBT 128 implementation in the field of cellular therapy and discuss obstacles involved with the implementation and selection of appropriate product codes.
