Immunology: Biology of Cytokines
Program Code: 105-S Saturday, October 23, 2004
10:30 AM to 12:00 PM (ET)
SPEAKERS Robertson Davenport, MD, University of Michigan Hospitals
DESCRIPTION
This session will focus on two rapidly evolving aspects of the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses: cytokines involved in T- and B-cell communication and chemokines. The speakers will discuss THI/TH2 cytokine profiles and their influence on the outcome of immune responses. In addition, the roles of chemokines in recruiting and activating leukocyte subsets will be reviewed. OBJECTIVES
- Identify cytokines produced by T-cell subsets
- Explain how cytokine networks regulate T-cell and B-cell responses
- List the major classes of chemokines
- Describe the roles of chemokines in directing the effector cells of inflammation
