DESCRIPTION
The past 10 years have been an exciting time for researches with an interest in blood group antigens. Molecular diagnostics had been predicted of having a significant future impact on transfusion medicine. We are witnessing that this prediction may be realized now. This seminar details how molecular diagnostics and its resultant application may be implemented for the benefit of our patients. Two speakers identify the clinical problems remaining with current blood group serology and explain the molecular bases of blood groups. Advantages of genotyping are evaluated and novel mass scale genotyping technologies are assessed that add value for patient care.
