DESCRIPTION
The practice of medicine is influenced by a wide spectrum of local, regional, national and global conditions. Blood banking and transfusion medicine are not spared from these impacts. This program will discuss four conditions that widely affect our clinical and laboratory efforts to provide safe blood components and transfusion services. Malaria, dengue, chagas disease and sickle cell anemia are maladies that affect what we do in an almost if not all global mode. The program will focus on the current basic science, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, and implications for the blood banking industry and the practice of transfusion medicine.
