DESCRIPTION
Hospital blood banks may be given responsibility to purchase, stock and distribute tissues for transplantation for the surgical services they support. Accrediting agency standards have clarified the scope of the required activities for which the blood bank staff and environment are uniquely qualified. The session will discuss vendor qualification to best ensure the quality of tissues purchased for transplantation, the diversity of bone products available for transplantation and qualities of the different graft types available, and the regulatory requirement environment of the hospital maintaining an inventory of tissues for transplantation.
