DESCRIPTION
Transfusion support for neonatal and pediatric patients is different than transfusion support for older children and adults. In a lecture format, the first half of this program will focus on developing an understanding of coagulation in this age group and how this affects therapeutic options. Specific indications for platelet transfusion as well as special product considerations and adverse events in the pediatric population will also be presented. The second half of the program will focus on massive transfusion. Transfusion support for neonatal patients undergoing ECMO will be discussed. In addition, a neonatologist will talk about different scenarios associated with neonatal blood loss and management strategies.
