DESCRIPTION
During this session, industry principles and concepts for inventory management will be described and examples provided to illustrate the application of these principles to blood product management. Methods to evaluate and establish optimal hospital inventory levels of blood products based on facility-specific usage patterns with consideration of additional local issues and conditions will be outlined. Standardized definitions of optimal, minimum and critical inventory levels will be proposed for group discussion. Opportunity will be provided for participant interaction and discussion of strategies and approaches for communicating inventory levels and management of available products when optimal inventory levels cannot be attained or maintained.
