DESCRIPTION
Recognizing and managing adverse transfusion outcomes is critical to effective patient care. This program provides an update for clinicians on the current strategies for diagnosing Transfusion Associated Circulatory Overload (TACO) vs. Transfusion Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI), approaches to preventing and eliminating bacteria from transfusable blood products, recent development in the understanding of Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease (CJD/vCJD) and biology of flu viruses, including H5N1 and the potential impact of pandemic flu on the safety and availability of the blood supply.
