DESCRIPTION
This session will offer a discussion of the data collected as part of the International Strategic Blood Meeting (ISBM) benchmarking project and include the areas of donor loyalty, medical issues and organizational efficiency. There will also be a presentation of the United States Department of Health and Human Services? Blood Availability and Safety Information System (BASIS) and benchmarking trends obtained in a recent national blood survey. Benefits of BASIS to both blood collection centers (supply) and medical center transfusion services (demand) will be given. Uses of a national blood information system in assessing daily status and crises management (e.g., hurricanes, pandemic flu) as well as in assessing the impact of potential policy decisions will be reviewed.
