DESCRIPTION
Entering the 21st century, the face of blood bank testing continues to change, driven by many forces including consolidation and harmonization. Advancements in serological and nucleic acid testing technologies are critical to meeting the blood industry’s need for automation, reduced cost, superior assay performance, retention of donors and improved laboratory cGMP compliance. Further technology advancements are needed to address emerging needs for potential new transfusion markers (e.g., Chagas, nvCJD, malaria) and innovations associated with blood replacement products or viral inactivation.
