DESCRIPTION
This program will explore the impact of specifications and optimization of blood components from both the donor and recipient aspect. The speakers will examine many of the questions involved in this topic. What volume is enough but not too much for the donor and what hematocrit is appropriate? What is the value of a “standard dose” of red cells or platelets to the recipient and what should a “standard dose” be? Increased standardization of every product would require further testing of blood; what would the cost be?
