DESCRIPTION
Nanotechnology has become a very popular topic in all aspects of research. There is great promise that nanotechnology will be able to produce major changes in the way we understand, interact with and control our environment. Companies are being formed to capitalize on these novel technologies and the government is providing significant amounts of funding to support research in this area. Are we at the break of a new industrial age? Will the practice of medicine and blood banking be transformed with molecular-sized devices? Three speakers from the National Center for Nanotechnology and the University of Washington will provide a broad overview of nanotechnology and then focus on several research applications that have a potential to miniaturize clinical laboratory testing.
