Description
Although twice-exceptional students have received increased attention in the gifted education literature, one group of twice-exceptional students continues to be ignored: gifted students with emotional disabilities. This session addresses the unique educational needs and behavioral profiles of gifted students with emotional disabilities. It also identifies factors that often prevent their inclusion in gifted programs, such as the negative perceptions held towards these vulnerable students and the focus on remediation of behavioral difficulties rather than on academic gifts. Finally, it provides parents and educators with suggestions for addressing the affective and educational needs of such twice-exceptional students with emotional disabilities.
