Description
In this session, the presenter shares a framework for helping gifted students to analyze non-fiction books. Participants review examples of the framework, which utilizes a research-based model for the development of critical thinking and reasoning skills in the language arts, in preparation for developing resources of their own. Emphases of the session is on developing questions, and on designing activities to teach students how to summarize information, make inferences, explore concepts, and connect to prior knowledge. Ideas for appropriate research activities, vocabulary-building exercises, and writing skills work are also shared.
