Description
Think of an adolescent and risky behaviour and it seems like a recipe for disaster, yet, healthy risk-taking is essential as teenagers navigate the waters to adulthood. Since adolescence is recognized as a time period of heightened vulnerability for risk-taking, it is essential to have a deeper understanding of how gifted youngsters approach risk-taking behaviors. This session provides self-reports of gifted adolescents when presented with unfinished stories that describe risky situations. These stories have potential for both positive and negative risks. Discussion includes implications regarding the culture of risk-taking, the developing adolescent brain, and the gifted student responses.
