Description
How can teachers increase middle school student's engagement and performance in reading? Recent reports suggest that adolescents crave choice in literacy activities, relevant content, and a personal connection with their teacher. However, evidence also indicates a frequent mismatch between the needs and preferences of talented readers and the instructional opportunities provided to them a mismatch that may be contributing to a waning interest in reading as adolescents progress through school. This session examines a research-based literacy framework that enables middle school teachers to differentiate instruction to support the individual needs and interests of talented readers more effectively.
