Description
When parents ask us, Is my child gifted? we reply, Lets reframe the question, and suggest a better one: How can I make sure my child's gifted learning needs are being met? A subtle difference perhaps, but the educational implications are enormous. The revised question leads to a growth mindset, associated with happier long-term outcomes, and more compatible with the fluid nature of gifted development and the complex variations in children's lived experiences. We discuss the ways that children benefit from reframing conventional perspectives, shifting the focus away from categorical giftedness (or not) and toward ability-matching.
