Description
The National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza (NSPI) directs communities to prepare for dramatic surge in infectious patients, creating significant environmental and staffing challenges for healthcare institutions. Overlooked by the NSPI is anticipating a surge in infectious waste, leaving many unprepared. Participants of this session will identify environmental services impact of pandemic influenza; evaluate measures that can be put in place to guarantee continuity of operations during a pandemic; and formulate a plan to manage surge in infectious waste during periods when hospital and waste services contractors staffing may be reduced by 40%.
